The issue of human dignity, as an important anthropological characteristic of a
person, source of her/his natural rights and freedoms, is actual at the present stage of
mankind’s development. The investigation of human dignity and human rights
understanding by the philosophers of the past has a great importance in researching this
problem. The article is devoted to the survey of views concerning the above-mentioned
issues, formed during the XIII–XIX centuries.
