Standards of territorial basis of local self-government of Ukraine existence are the

result of historical, geopolitical, economic and social, ethnic and demographic features

influence on state development. Research of local self-government territorial basis is up-todate

needs separate consideration according to the European charter of local selfgovernment

provisions and their implementation into the national legislation of Ukraine.

The author asserts that constitutional and administrative-territorial reforms in Ukraine

certify the necessity of the European standards of local self-government implementation,

analysis of their advantages and disadvantages, expedience of their application in Ukraine

in order to provide local self-government bodies’ execution of their powers under the

current administrative-territorial division of Ukraine.
